Our first major project, last month’s HIV & Dating workshop helped generate some national press from EDGE Media. Click the link above to read it.

We will resume regular meetings in January 2012 as we brainstorm projects, initiatives, and activities that can help reduce HIV stigma and benefit the Community.

Poz Dating in the 2010s - A Workshop on Making it Work

With the new decade has come new information on sexual practices, larger strides in medications, and longer life spans for people living with HIV. Yet many things have not changed, primarily the divide between HIV + and HIV - men in the dating world and how those with differing serostatuses deal with each other.

The purpose of the Poz Dating in the 2010s workshop is to tackle the challenges HIV + individuals face in the information age,  provide open communication in a therapeutic environment, and provide solutions and ideas for handling the complexities that are presently faced . Among the issues to be discussed are disclosure, safer sex practice discussions, dating resources, and handling rejection due to HIV status.  A certified therapist with specialty in gay and HIV clients will be conducting the majority of the workshop and will be available throughout the event.

Individuals participating will be encouraged to share their own experiences in dating as HIV + individuals and what challenges of social disconnects  they have or have not experienced.

We believe that for this community that has historically faced an uphill battle, it is imperative to build upon their current social skills, with the goal of avoiding social isolation and promoting healthy behavioral choices. For human service/public health professionals working with the HIV-infected/affected and queer communities, this workshop can accentuate a commitment to meet the changing needs of HIV-positive individuals.
